STILL IN THE SLEEPING PART
(recharging batteries)
OF MY VACATION FROM WORK…

I must have needed it…

Usually happy to get 7 hours sleep per nite,
I have no problem sleeping 10-12 hours at a time.
Not hard to do with all the ‘travelling’ I do in my sleep.

Like Jamiroquai..
TRAVELLING WITHOUT MOVING

I can even force myself to doze off
while watching tv during the day.

It’s gonna be hell going back to
a work-schedule-regular sleep nite !

I heard that SOMEONE in Washington
(Re: the debt ceiling)
was adamant that
‘COMPROMISE’  is DIRTY WORD !!!

I’d like to send my own message
to ALL the politicians & leaders
who think they’re doing a ‘wonderful’ job…

GO ‘COMPROMISE’ YOURSELVES !!!

(or should that be… ‘Compromise‘ YOU)

Conerning the DEBT CEILING…
I’m sure it’s been a problem for decades.
I just wonder why ‘this time’ it’s portrayed as
so catastrophic the gov’t is in danger of shutting down
and in the past was NOT in the headlines?

MY PLAN?

SHUT THE GOV’T FOR A WEEK (yearly, if necessary) !
Everybody works  but no one gets paid,
a give back to bring debt down.
No programs are funded for a week.
No military spending for a week.
No CIA or FBI spending for a week.
No foreign aid for a week.
NO NUTHIN’ !
The only problem is that even if the debt were eliminated,
the politicians would ’spend’ it right back up again !

(times square, nyc)

Early morning… 8-10 am

They had a good crowd of several hundred.
Anthony, asking the crowd, if they had
to leave during the show to report to work later that day,
got a BOOMING… ” NO ” from most of the crowd.

to which Anthony replied…

He said he went for a massage
and requested a male massuese
so he wouldn’t be tempted to cheat on his wife.

GO  FIGURE ?

A New Jersey-based company that promised
hopeful parents their children would be marketed
to modeling or acting companies
has been charged with consumer fraud.
Authorities said the company forced parents
to pay for what amounted to expensive photo shoots.
(the photos were the ONLY thing contractually promised)

Amazing they can still pull-off this con !

All you need is a proud parent
and a grubby, little, rug-rat
and they think they have a STAR !

Either pretty or odd-looking
works just as well…

I don’t like to brag…

but a ’store-photographer’ almost,
ALMOST, had my mother convinced
that I photographed well enough
to get minimally.. catalog work !

(of course, I talked her out of it, I was 35 at the time)

sure died out quickly !

There’ll be little fits in the future…
(cable tabloid shows will fill their empty time)
but the over-the-top haters will have to be
content that the rest of her life is ruined.

Wouldn’t it be nice if that ‘our-pouring’
could have been harnessed towards a good cause
in the memory of baby victim, Caylee
instead of useless mob hate.

I heard that someone is offering video
of CASEY ANTHONY having a beer after her trial
to be sold to the highest bidder.

AFTER BEING IN LOCK-UP FOR 3 YEARS,
HAVING A BEER DOESN’T SEEM ALL THAT CRAZY !

I guess there are some that think she has to
dress in sack-cloth for the rest of her life.

It ain’t like she was shooting up with heroin,
or having a champagne party…
She’s had 3 years of prison-life to ‘mourn’ her situation.

CALL ME SILLY,

but after the jury verdict that could have led to
the death penalty, she just might have had
a reason to be relieved.

(the prosecutor is the one who should be in hiding)

I saw a really wacky headline…

Should music industry

have tried to save Amy Winehouse?

I was un-aware that the ‘industry’ was so organized !
If they are, like professional sports,
perhaps they should employ drug-testing
and include ‘morals clauses’ in their dealings !

The ONLY interest MOST ANY industry has
is making money.  Make money for them
as a private contractor & YOU are responsible !

DUH…

She needed help ?

That’s what friends & family are for !
(or a personal realization that change is needed)
I wasn’t particularly a fan…
but if she had a ‘genius’, like most who do,
it comes from ’skating’ on the edge !

In the 70’s, I came to a conclusion.
I had an aunt who was totally enamored of Johnny Mathis.
Aunt Ruth & Uncle Joe went to see him in a nightclub.
Loved the show, but she-they were revolted that afterwards,
Johnny walked thru the crowd holding hands with his gay friend.

Even then I wondered why she couldn’t enjoy the music
because he was gay. It’s not like he was coming home with her.
I liked and still like Mathis, and figured whatever a
singer or an actor did away from MY interests
had nothing to do with me, or my enjoyment of a performance.

(SAME GOES WITH SEX or DRUG USE)

SPEAKING OF MATHIS…

I forget the show… but some old variety show
brought out NORMAN FELL (mr. roper- 3’s company)
wearing a hat & coat over the shoulder, ala Sinatra.
Playing Mr. Cool, when Mathis was introduced to him..
Mathis did a ‘hand-over-mouth-in-awe’ and proclaimed…
” WOW !  NORMAN FELL ! “
(actually pretty funny, since Mathis dwarfed his star)

FELL DID CLAIM A STARRING ROLE IN
THE GRADUATE
FELL played a video of his 3 lines.
He was the rooming house landlord
for Ben at Elaine’s college.

MAKING NEWS WHERE THERE ISN’T ANY ?

CASEY ANTHONY MASK ?

I read that some prop guy put 1 of 6 masks
up for auction on ebay (used in a parody video).
Some idiot paid close to a $1 million for it !!!
(and does it really look all that much like her?)



WHY ?

And a question that occurs to me?
In a time when you have to be licensed
by the estate of a long-dead movie star, ala John Wayne,
to use his image for commercial projects,

HOW IS SOMEONE ABLE TO BENEFIT FINANCIALLY
FROM ANOTHER PERSON’S IMAGE ?

I know that Halloween masks of stars & politicians
are readily available, but can an issue be made of it ?
(nickels & dimes vs. a million dollar windfall)

Parody & fair use are protected by law.
(RIP Renfield takes full advantage with NO profit)
And you can argue that Casey is a public figure.
(but isn’t John Wayne, or any celeb, a public figure?)

IS THE IMAGE OF ANYONE
WHO WAS EVER TAKEN TO TRIAL
(guilty or not guilty)
NOT THEIRS TO CONTROL ANYMORE ?
A news story is one thing, but this is a money maker !

I remember SPANKY McFARLAND (little rascals)
made a career out of sue-ing (settling?)
establishments (usually bars or strip clubs)
for using his character’s name & image !

The joke was that Spanky didn’t have the rights
to the name or image, but bluffed settlements anyway.

BUT SOMEONE DID HAVE THE RIGHTS
AND YOU PAY FOR THOSE RIGHTS !

I’m not cheerleading for Casey,
but something bigger is wrong here !

It took 2 sittings

but

I FINALLY got to see the movie

2012

(In the guide, I thought it was 2010, I NEVER pass that one up)

I’m surprised the sci-fi-end-of-times epic didn’t make
a bigger splash in theaters when it came out.
It’s every bit as (repeat) watch-able as
Independence Day or Shawshank !

As a matter of fact,
It was so off my ‘radar’ that
I ‘caught it’ on a minor cable movie channel.
I’ll be watching again (when bored with offerings).
Some nice special effects & edge of your seat stuff.

I DID NOTICE HOW…

IT’S THE OPPOSITE OF TITANIC !

In Titanic, the people are leaving the sinking ship
hoping for the safety of the ‘earth’.
In 2012, the people are ‘leaving’ the self-destructing
earth to get to the safety of a ship(s).

addendum…

The movie 2012 reminded me of the first time
I saw TOTAL RECALL.
I knew the story as it was un-folding !
VERY DISAPPOINTING !
I was looking foward to being surprised.
Seems I read the Philip K. Dick story previously.
I couldn’t help but notice the similarity of 2012
to James P. Hogan’s CRADLE of SATURN.
Earth collapsing under their feet,
the only chance of survival was to get into rockets
and hope to be picked up by visiting earth colony ships
from an outpost on a Saturnian moon.
The story centered on the desparate journey
of a small ‘family’ (& a few ‘friends’)
with anything you can name in their way.
SOUND  FAMILIAR ?

‘Water cooler talk’ funny !
A must see !!!
HE runs the show, not the suits !

SO FAR THIS SEASON ?

Still VERY clever,
but leaning to ART-SY instead of FUNNY !

As Jerry Seinfeld would say…
” WHERE UH-ARE THE LAUGHS ? ”

I’M NOT SEE-ING THE LAUGHS
THAT MADE ME A FAN LAST SEASON !
(only one episode of 4, the first one)

Hopefully still on the way,
unless he’s bought into his own ‘celebrity’
and joined the Dick Cavett school of comedy.
