CASEY ANTHONY TRIAL OVER ?
back to the summer seas ?

What the hell am I going to watch on tv all summer ?
Nothing to look forward to !

I have extensive comments on the verdict.
I put them at the end of the issue
so you won’t quit reading until you get to it…
OR
If you are totally sated,
you can skip it completely !
(sure to rub alot of you the wrong way)

I would have liked to publish trial stuff last issue,
but I was working on a ‘lawyer-type’ theme
for this issue….

Loretta Young

Loretta was an American actress,
she started as a child actress
and had a long and varied film career
from 1917 to 1953, later television.
She won a best actress Oscar for
THE FARMER’S DAUGHTER
and a nomination for COME TO THE STABLE.
You can see her every Xmas holiday season as
THE BISHOP’S WIFE (nice movie).

Her dramatic anthology tv series ran successfully
from 1953 to 1961 and won 3 Emmy Awards.
Her trademark, at the beginning of the show,
was to appear in a 5th Ave. type apartment,
entering thru intricate doors,
wearing various high fashion evening gowns.
Her introductions & epilogues
were NOT re-run on television
because she legally stipulated in her contract
that they not be, not wanting her ‘modern fashion’
to ‘date’ the program (smart for the day).

She also appeared in ORSON WELLES’
THE STRANGER
which I talk about further below…

LAWYER SHOWS ON TV…

I love a good cop or lawyer show…
‘Good’ meaning a crime
and a (semi?) logical route to exposing
the criminal, whether caught-convicted, or what.

I think 75-80% of the show dedicated to the ‘crime’
is sufficient and leaves enough ‘wiggle-room’
for non-crime related nonsense.

If it’s a ‘buddy-show’ with minimal time in court,

what’s the point ?

WHY BOTHER BASING IT WITH LAWYERS ?

There is a new show… ’something & something’
that I won’t even bother checking out…
how could it be ‘better’ than the Jim Belushi
version they cloned from ?

and NECESSARY ROUGHNESS ?

Pul-leaze… movie length was bad enough,
a weekly series? INSANITY !!!
Are they trying to convince us that player’s are pussies,
need to be treated like a ‘bitch’,
and it takes a WOMAN counsellor to make it right ?
Who’s the audience there’re shooting for ?
(uh-huh.. can’t do it without her)

From the above description,
the audience is for women ONLY,
if they show some bare tit,
you might be able to get guys to watch too !


Must be the same audience watching the guy
being friendly with another guy in a dog suit
that only HE can see ?

I’ve seen this more than once on cop shows…

To get the incriminating DNA evidence
(victim or perp),
the cops search everywhere…
and they are bound to notice that
EVEN the person’s hair-brush has been
picked clean and no hair is present for lab analysis !

FYI…

Since I let my hair grow into a ponytail
(nice white one),
there’s friggin’ hair everywhere !

THERE IS NO WAY TO KEEP A BRUSH
COMPLETELY FREE OF YOUR HAIR !

I’ve pulled it off, gone thru the tines with a toothpick,
I’ve even burned it off with a cigarette lighter !

THERE ARE STILL BITS OF HAIR !

The only way to keep them EXTRA clean
is to buy them at the DOLLAR STORE,
and replace them when they get crappy !

CIGARETTE LIGHTERS ?
(also from the dollar store… 5 for $1)

I don’t smoke, but I like fire, always did…
I got picked up by the cops as 10 year old
for lighting up the night-time street
with home-made gunpowder we used
in a home-made volcano in an empty lot !

ANYWAY…

I was always annoyed at the maximum height
of the flame of the cigarette lighter !
My daughter (of all people) showed me how to
turn a simple throw-away lighter into a BLOW-TORCH !
(just takes a litle, no tool, surgery)

I’m thinking how handy this will be with
a frozen lock on a winter-time car !

always hold a lighter away from you, just in case…

the STRANGER…

I had the pleasure of introducing my daughter
to this great old movie…
I’m surprised she never saw it…
THEY SHOW IT ENOUGH !
(probably in the public domain)

Turns out she became a LORETTA YOUNG fan…
surprising since Loretta was a teenagere in the 30’s !
add ORSON WELLES doing his Orson Welles thing..
a nazi in hiding in connecticut in 1946.
with Edward G. Robinson on his tale…
and YOU GOT A MOVIE !

I’ve seen it dozens of times,
but enjoyed it more this time than probably
the first time or 2,  I originally saw it !

IT  WAS  FRESH  EYES  !

My kid had questions
and sounds came out of her
at times Welles planned for viewers to make !
She ENJOYED it ALOT, which added to MY enjoyment.

Plus, I maximized a pic of my dead UNCLE JOE
on the computer to show his uncanny resemblance
to EDWARD G. ROBINSON (even his ‘talk’ was close)

but a show about Harvard College students
learning about the law…

I was watching a gifted dvd set…

the PAPER CHASE

Great old tv series….

(the movie sucked in comparison)

Started on cable (SHOWTIME), when dropped,
picked up by CBS-TV to take HART & friends
all the way thru graduation from
HARVARD LAW SCHOOL

The thing that made it work was the chemistry
between HART & PROFESSOR KINGSFIELD
(james stephens & john houseman)

HOUSEMAN, OF COURSE, DID IT ALL !

But HART (to this day, I call him Hart when he appears)
pretty much went the guest star route,
occasionally turning up in a regular series role,
but never got back to the fame he enjoyed
as the ‘grande dame’ of THE PAPER CHASE !

AND I’VE COME TO THE CONCLUSION…


PROFESSOR KINGSFIELD ‘WORE PRADA’ !!!

The demanding professor HAD to be
the inspriration for the Streep role.
Actually, Streep was a push-over
compared to PROFESSOR KINGSFIELD !

AND THE THEME SONG ?

College, especially Law School looks archaic
without the use of the internet & cell phones !
HOW DID WE EVER GET BY ?
There was alot of wasted time going to the library
and digging thru the ’stacks’ !

I remember early internet days…

a guy I worked with was incensed that
a neighborhood kid stopped by his house
to oogle his wife.. er, I mean use THEIR internet !
“How’s he ever going to learn anything?
He should be at the library ‘digging thru the stacks’ ! ”
There was no way to convince him otherwise !!!!

IT TOOK ABOUT 2 YEARS FOR HIM TO COME AROUND
AND PRAISE THE INTERNET FOR THE MIRACLE IT IS !
HE’S BEEN A CHEERLEADER SO LONG NOW,
HE DENIES EVER THINKING DIFFERENTLY !

Same guy?

Told him about the tv show ‘SUITS’…
he dismissed it… crap, garbage, won’t even check it out…
I figure it’ll be about another month before
he’s recommending the show to ME !

THIS CAME OUT TOO GOOD NOT TO USE…
just my luck the case went to jury before I could publish…
and I was ‘right-on-the-money’ !!!
sorry that it got away from me
and became longer than the original…

(I HAD A ‘THEME’ IN MIND WHERE IT FIT BETTER)

AND… I DID write this days before the jury verdict…


I thought I might have to temper my opinions
if the verdict came in GUILTY before I published.


Here’s a bit of a prequel…

I’ve had the experience of being part of a murder trial.
(NOT a defendant, I was on the jury)

WE LET THAT RAT BASTARD GO
and I’m ‘tortured’ to this day that the prosecutor
didn’t present a better case !
Not MY fault, it was the PROSECUTOR’S fault !

It was a circumstantial case…

A case that only came to trial because
of some drug-addict weasel claiming information
to get out of an arrest of his own…
The case had remained open for over a year
with no damning evidence or suspect.
The idiot they arrested said he didn’t do it…
and the rest of the case was supposition.
(the trial lasted 6 weeks)

YOU DON’T CONVICT ON THAT KIND OF EVIDENCE !

As a juror on an important case,
you really feel your civic duty to do it
according to the LETTER of the LAW !
It’s not frivolous !  YOU are important !
You hear every word without media opinion.
If you aren’t there for all of it, beginning to end,
you’re really not in a position to criticize jurors !
Ours was a fast verdict too… FIRST  VOTE !
(and it was unanimous)

For the ANTHONY trial, 11 hours was super-fast !

HOW DID THEY COVER ALL THE MATERIAL ?
They probably didn’t !
You take a vote to see where everyone is,
and discuss any areas in question…
NOT NECESSARY TO EXAMINE EVERY WORD !

A big part of the problem ?

IT WAS AN

ARROGANT  PROSECUTION
(arrogant & vindictive)

A laughing prosecutor (during closing arguments)
should be fired & dis-barred !

NOW…

the CASEY ANTHONY murder trial ?

I’ve heard it said…

” too cute to be guilty ”

but, besides that…
She comes across as a dopey, little girl…
basically white trash, taking advantage of her looks,
instead of taking advantage of books…
(probably from a young age… boys found her early)

I DON’T THINK SHE HAS THE BRAINS
(or luck)
TO BE A CRIMINAL MASTERMIND
THAT LEFT NO TRACE OF DAMNING EVIDENCE
OF THE MURDER SHE’S ACCUSED OF !

There’s as much ‘real’ evidence against her
as there is against YOU, or ME !

I’M NOT SAYING SHE ISN’T AS GUILTY AS OJ,
THERE’S JUST NO REAL PROOF
THEY CAN PRESENT TO SEAL THE CASE !
(fingerprints, dna, cause of death, witnesses, etc)
AND THE PROSECUTOR TOOK
TOO BIG A ‘BITE’ WHEN IT CAME TO CHARGES !

I’ve heard plenty of presented evidence,
and prosecution suppositions & arguments
don’t really hold up…
(even with the baby, she led the party life,
the baby wasn’t in the way, she had options
that didn’t include killing the baby !

It’s not beyond the realm of possibility
that the kid drowned accidentally,
she panic-ed, thought she was in trouble,
solved it for the moment, and then it was too late
to do the right thing, not thinking this would
turn into the case of the century
& world-wide news that just snow-balled out of control !


IF SHE LITERALLY HAS THE BRAINS
OF A 13 or 15 YEAR OLD,
IT MAY HAVE HAPPENED JUST THAT WAY !
Supposition, but the prosecutor DIDN’T prove his side either !


If my own daughter was in this situation
when she was 15 or 16,
I could see her ’struggling’ with the events too !
(I think I may check the crawl-space this weekend)

Casey is guilty of something,
but FIRST DEGREE MURDER, or any MURDER,
is un-prove-able from evidenciary standards !
You may not like her, or have a ‘feeling’ about her,
but that’s not enough in our legal system.

IT WAS NOT A DEATH PENALTY CASE,
the case started ’smelling’ of Judge Ito & Marcia Clark !
The media sharks were on a feeding frenzy !

All along, the ‘LAW’ pleaded with Casey to take a plea…
WHY DIDN’T SHE IF SHE WAS GUILTY
with the death penalty hanging over her head ?

There was a case in New Jersey

that received nation-wide press…

Timothy Wiltsey (Born August 6, 1985 – Died May 25, 1991)
was a 5 year old boy in South Amboy, NJ who was reported missing
by his mother, Michelle Lodzinski, May 25, 1991 from a local carnival.
His story was featured twice on America’s Most Wanted
and tens of thousands of missing-persons fliers
with Timmy’s picture were circulated around the country.

In April 1992, Timmy’s remains were discovered in a creek
that runs through a remote, marshy area behind Raritan Center,
a vast industrial park in Edison, NJ where Lodzinski
once worked as a secretary. His murder has never been solved.
Michelle Lodzinski was considered the number one suspect in the crime
and despite 2 failed lie detector tests & other inconsistencies in her story,
she was never charged in the case.

AND THERE WAS TONS OF PRESSURE TO PROSECUTE !!!

I must admit that at the conclusion of the trial,
once the verdict was in…
and the talking heads that had her guilty years ago,
back-pedaled and pointed the finger at their colleagues
for being the a-holes, instead of looking in the mirror.

The ‘TRIAL’ was all engrossing,
but when the verdict & shouting was over?

I JUST CHANGED THE CHANNEL
BACK TO MY REGULAR VIEWING !

The court system ONLY works
when YOU agree with it…

when YOU bully a fragile woman
who VERY shortly afterwards commits suicide

when you need to protect a career !

This jury did the job correctly !
(perhaps not going for – MURDER 1
would have gotten the ‘wanted’ result)

Just because you don’t agree
is no reason to shit on them…
or to threaten them !

I was bouncing my reasoning

for the CASEY ANTHONY verdict off my daughter…

(I do that in conversation sometimes to get it right)

She was leaning towards anger at the verdict…

THE ONE THING I SAID THAT CHANGED HER MIND ?
(about murder anyway)

WAS ME SUGGESTING HER OWN
CONFUSION IF IN THE SAME SITUATION !
She was insulted at the time,
but the next day…

She acknowledged that a few years back,
she could see how shock & confusion
could turn into a debacle of delay !
(explaining away how 1 day turns into 31 days)

NOT THAT SHE WOULD,

but she could see how it could happen !
Saying how ‘easy’ it would be to get caught up
in the whole thing ! (Casey might not be too bright)

no statute of limitations on murder…
and there were other reasons to keep her
locked up in the meantime…

He had to know this was HIS best shot,
or he was watching too much tv coverage
instead of concentrating
on the law and professionalism !

If this is where tv coverage of court cases gets you…
(the real chance of vigilante-ism)

PERHAPS THEY SHOULD GET THE CAMERAS
OUT OF THE COURT ROOM !

go save a ‘live’, abused kid on their block ?
