HAPPY FATHERS DAY

TO ALL THE DADS IN RIP Renfield Land…

and an RIP to my own dad…

Left us in ‘97 & I’m still not comfortable
with the idea that it’s supposed to be
MY day instead of his… (sniff)

Well.. I won’t be working TOO hard today
or for this issue…

JAMES  BROWN

(not THAT one, the Lt. RIPLEY ‘Rip’ MASTERS one)

Hey.. he was like a ‘dad’ to Rusty !

Best known to aging baby boomers for his continuing role as
“Lt. Rip Masters” on the popular 1950s TV series
“The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin” (1954).

Very athletic, Brown became a tennis pro before there was any money in it.
He then entered films in 1941.
Clearly a man of unlimited athletic prowess,
he appeared in such rugged Hollywood productions as Wake Island (1942),
Air Force (1943), Objective, Burma! (1945) and Sands of Iwo Jima (1949).
He had more sedate roles in Going My Way (1944),
as the romantic lead & then, in Sands of Iwo Jima (1949) (with John Wayne),
In The Pride of St. Louis (1952), a biopic about baseball star Dizzy Dean,
Brown played a sidelined ballplayer “Moose”.
In Flight Nurse (1953), he played the plane’s Flight Engineer on the
mission mercy aircraft. He then began a television career as “Lt. Rip Masters”
on TV’s “The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin” (1954), which ran from 1954 to 1958.
He then appeared in “The Rounders” (1966) TV Comedy Western Series.
In 1976, Rin Tin Tin TV was re-released with new sepia tinted beginnings
and endings with James L. Brown reprising his role as “Lt. Rip Masters”.
Few later movies are worth mentioning, though he had a few telling moments
as the stern, rifle-toting father of the serial killer “protagonist”
in Peter Bogdanovich’s Targets (1968).
He retired from acting in the late 1960s to manage his successful
body-building equipment concern, and then was appointed
head of customer relations at Faberge, a cosmetics firm.

AND SOMEONE WHO DID ALOT WITH THE TIME HE HAD.

and I could swear that his office was the same one
that Capt. ParmentEr used of F-TROOP.

a father’s day moment…

The ANTENNA TV channel
has been showing back-to-back
FATHER KNOWS BEST episodes on week-days.
The 1950’s sitcom of family life CAN be entertaining.

BUT IT’S ALSO INFURIATING !!!
I’m talking about some of the things that were
presented as normal family type stuff.

HERE’S ONE PARTICULARLY ‘BAD’ EXAMPLE
OF FATHER-HOOD…

When it’s found out that 4th grader (kathy- 8 or 9 years old?)
has won a Thanksgiving poetry contest in her class at school,
her father calls everyone he knows in town,
brags about her talent, dreams her into a writing career…
starts reciting tomes from the masters…

THEN HE HEARS THE CHILD’S POEM…

It’s what you’d expect from a 4th grader…
his disappointment is visible…
thinking her out of sight, he LOUDLY
proclaims her work embarassing drivel
and is visibly upset that she’ll be reading it
on a local tv program and embarassing HIM !

WHAT A FUCKIN’ JERK !!!

(no wonder the actress turned to drugs later in life)

AND THIS IS ACCEPTABLE FAMILY LIFE ?

Later he somehow gets her to accept an apology,
and explains that he had his bad moments…
and has… NEVER LIVED SOMETHING DOWN !

Seems he asked his opinion of a poem
when he was in school…
HE HATED IT, SLAMMED IT, THOUGHT IT CRAP !

Then was told it was by SHAKESPEARE
and figured out that HE was wrong…
HE SHOULD HAVE LIKED IT I GUESS !

HUH ?

You’re allowed to NOT LIKE a writer’s work !

Dad was embarassed by his honest opinion
because the author was famous !

I guess they don’t teach something else by Shakespeare
from the mouth of Polonius…

TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE !

THE WRITER’S OF THE SHOW
MUST HAVE BEEN INTO DRUGS….

Yeah, that’s the headline I read.
I only looked out of curiosity,
could never be ANYTHING I take !

MOTHER-EFFERS !!!

Turns out to be the ONLY medication I DO take…

Only slightly diabetic… (only certain times too)…
There is no generic, no substitute, no alternative !

AND IT’S EXPENSIVE TO BOOT !

(someone’s making billions keeping it quiet)

Well, it’s been banned for use in Europe…
seems there’s a very large contingent
in the control group that developed…

BLADDER  CANCER  !!!

And even though Europe recognizes the danger
and the need for immediately stopping the use…

IT’S NOT EVEN A BLIP ON THE RADAR
(or media)
IN THE UNITED STATES !

One comment was that the ‘chance’
of developing ‘bladder cancer’
was better than the diabetes untreated with it !

It’s only a REAL problem if taken regularly
for a year or more…

Uh… 10 years of semi-regular use here !!!

The woman who had Arnold’s bastard child
finally opened-up to the media…

When asked about her near-teen spawn’s
reaction to the news of his paternal parentage
that he heard about ONLY a year ago…

HE SAID….  ” COOL “

Cool?  Friggin’ little bastard !!!

Fuck the parent, who up until that point
‘filled-in’ thinking himself to be the REAL dad ?

Better to be ‘cool’ about
some celeb that WASN’T your dad
even though he was on the fringe of your life,
at arm’s length,
during your formative years
while raising what he considered
his REAL kids as heirs to the throne !

THE KID IS AN UN-GRATEFUL LITTLE PRICK

I think I might have had a few tears, or upset,
upon finding out that I was lied to for a dozen years,
and the man I called ‘DAD’ was a fill-in

GUESS WHAT I DID ?

And NO… it doesn’t involve my ‘dick’,

As a child, I could never ROLL MY TONGUE.
I had always heard that it was genetic,
that you could either do it, or not.

AFTER ALL THESE DECADES…
I’m sitting in the car, looking in the mirror
(at my face, not my ‘dick’),
and started ‘moving’ my tongue around…

It doesn’t come easy to me
and I have to be looking in the mirror to do it…
I’d compare the movement to achieve it
sort of like the roll of stomach muscles
you see on a belly dancer.

BUT DAMN !!!

The things you can achieve if you put your mind to it.
(and have alot of free ‘anthony weiner’ time on your hands)
Too bad I can’t ever seem to ‘achieve’ money
from any of my antics !

Had someone in a nice uniform,
and all the answers…
offer us a free system, free installation, free everything?
For allowing the company to stick a sign in my yard
as advertising to lure other neighbors in !

The comparison to make is the one with PHONOGRAPHS.
When RCA first came out with them…
they were very inexpensive… too inexpensive !
But they were smart…
they made their money on the vinly records
that were played on the phonographs !

What would happen to YOU at YOUR
place of employment if caught in the act ?
(especially doing it on company grounds)

HR Dept’s are all over people for the most
minor of ‘perceived’ infractions,
they could really get their teeth
into something like this !

The guy is getting a few more paychecks
than you’d be getting, that’s for sure !

The part that will be interesting
will be the employment he gets after gov’t service.
Since he’s not a lawyer,
he has no practice to return to.
All he’s done is be a congressman !

I wonder what LUCRATIVE party job
he’ll end up in as ‘payment’
for leaving his congressional post !

was in the news.

I happened to hear this on my way out the door.

It was reported that she was being sued for millions !

FOR THE BURNING OF A BEACHFRONT HOME !

The fire was ruled accidental…

She was filling a portable space heater with oil
and ‘whoosh’.. the fire took off !

MY QUESTION ?

WHY IS SHE BEING SUED ?

YOU’D HAVE TO BE A MORON
TO NOT HAVE FIRE INSURANCE
ON A RENTAL PROPERTY !

WHY IS THE OWNER AFTER HER ?

UNLESS THEY INTEND TO PROVE ARSON,
INSTEAD OF A ‘MISTAKE’,
THERE DOESN’T SEEM TO BE A CASE !

I would tend to think that most fires of that kind
are caused by mistakes…
(leaving something on, too much on one power line, etc)

Yeah, the queen of mars decided we were a threat
