I got into a ‘disagreement’ with a clerk in a store,
who, condescendingly, FINALLY agreed with me
that BONOMO TURKISH TAFFY
(a candy kid staple for kids years ago)
was DISCONTINUED and not available for decades !

I remember looking for it years ago online…
and was only able to find something claiming
to be a ‘near’ substitute.

WELL… I WAS RIGHT

and will be taking a printout back to the store !

Turkish Taffy Is a chewy taffy-like candy bar, which comes in several flavors.
It was invented by Victor Bonomo.  The Bonomo Company was at
Coney Island, New York, in 1897, makeing saltwater taffy & hard candies.
Turkish Taffy “was not really a taffy,
but what is technically known as a short nougat,”
It was also not Turkish, but created after World War II
in the Bonomo factory. It has been marketed in
vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and banana flavors.

Originally distributed through Woolworth’s stores in large sheets,
pieces were broken off with a ball-peen hammer & sold by weight.
In the late 1940’s the company released a version in candy-bar size
which the purchaser could whack against a hard surface
to break into bite-sized pieces.

In 1980 the candy became part of the Tootsie Roll Industries
of Chicago line of candies, and it was discontinued in 1989.

In 2003, Bonomo Turkish Taffy, LLC created a website proclaiming
the return of Bonomo Turkish Taffy and accepting advance orders,
but later the site only gave contact information.  A press release
said the product would be available in stores in July 2010.

Bonomo’s Turkish Taffy made its official re-debut to the general public
July 2, 2010, at IT’SUGAR in Atlantic City.

On July 6, 2010,
Old Time Candy offered Bonomo’s Turkish Taffy for sale on its website.

I bought a few ‘new’ belts.

Three of them, all the same, for everyday use.

But I ran into a problem…

I ran out of holes !

(to the good side, not the gained weight side)

At first I was using the last ‘hole’,
but I could have used one or 2 more.
In the past, I think I’ve used nails or screwdrivers
to ‘punch’ a new hole in the belt.
BUT THIS TIME I HAD A BRAINSTORM !!!
I used an electric drill (with the correct sized bit)
and created a near-factory quality hole,
instead of the ragged, shitty ones I’ve done in the past !
(that never showed)

I’m feeling smart for thinking of it,
and stupid for not thinking of it before !

I was a HUGE fan of the tv series…

NORTHERN EXPOSURE

It was one of those shows that a lot of people didn’t ‘get’…
If you liked it… you loved it… or you scratched your head !

I, like many others, was very disappointed at the final episode…
they did a variation of the old ‘garrison keeler’ bit…
a ‘regular’ episode… life goes on…

It’s been very well received by fans…

My old windows98se computer with Norton 2005
came up for subscription renewal for updates…

SEEMS THAT THEY DECIDED NOT TO SUPPORT
US MINORITY WIN98 USERS ANYMORE !

So I guess I’m going ‘commando’ after this month !
(I already type sans underwear)
I MEAN ‘BARE-BACK’ ?
(without underwear it’s pretty rough)

Time to just take my chances that the people
creating the viruses can’t be bothered with
creating new ones for old computers…
