The above banner doesn’t represent the summer
we’ve had so far in New Jersey…. (hot out west though, I hear)
It’s been moderately hot some days, cooler evenings,
and many days with at least a shower of rain…
I’m thinking that the earth’s orbit has changed (minutely)…
where I am, we seem to have had the usual weather ‘track’
shift about 10 or 20 miles to the north !
Our weather, the rain and clouds anyway…
used to head east, then north at Washington, DC…
and arrive from the south (an hour before hitting NYC)…
NOW… the rain often tracks east with us at the bottom edge,
sometimes getting clouds, sometimes only some rain…
while NYC and north get drenched or having severe weather !

A VERY ODD OCCURENCE… IT’S BEEN MONTHS OF IT !!!

There’s a scientist with an un-popular theory (non-PC)..
who is tie-ing global warming to a very long period
of sun inactivity (it’s a cosmic ray thing)…
and he shows much evidence that the ‘warming’
is NOT from man’s activity !!!
(WE SHOULD CONSERVE ANYWAY, BUT.. I’D LIKE TO KNOW)

AND IF YOU MISSED IT THIS PAST WEEK…
(you’ll never live to see it again)

Kenny Rankin

One of my personal, off-the-radar, favorites…
I was sorry to hear Kenny died (lung cancer.. not fun)

I discovered him thru a musician friend
who turned-me-on to an album called…
SILVER MORNING
For some reason, it took a long time to get it to CD in the 90’s.
It has the first release of him doing BLACKBIRD…
(sung by him when the Beatles inducted to the R&R Hall of Fame)
Silver Morning also had his best versions of…
‘In the name of love’  &  ‘ Haven’t we met’
Kenny tended to do alternate versions in concert…
(one reason I never went to see him live)

NOW TO MY VIVID DREAM WORLD…
The morning after I read about Kenny’s death…
I had a dream that I was in a hotel room
and had to break the news to SEAN CONNERY !!!
Surprisingly… Sean was a fan of Kenny…
and before waking… I booted up a computer
to play a few Kenny Ranking selections for Sean…

SOME ANGELIC MUSIC JUST MADE THE TRIP TO HEAVEN

used to show REAL classic tv shows…

now the channels are FREQUENTLY un-watch-able !

AMC & TCM … classic movie channels ?
I think the time has come to sub-divide !

One channel -  60’s – 90’s so-called classics
The Second channel -  nothing after 1959 !

I THINK I COULD LIVE WITH THAT !!!
(subdivide more if you like.. I don’t care)

This past sunday morning…
There was NOTHING… absolutely NOTHING…
to watch on ALL those cable channels !
(representative of nearly ALL sunday mornings)
NOT EVEN A LEAVE-IT-TO-BEAVER RE-RUN !!!
(news, public service, and info-mercials only)
GAR-BAGE !!!

I ended up reaching for a tape…
a REAL classic of a movie !!!

with Tyrone Power, Ann Baxter, & Cecil Kellaway…
WHY AREN’T THOSE FILMS SHOWN ANYMORE ?

If the business is being run by young punks
who know of nothing before 1980…
HIRE SOME OLD FILM BUFF (like Mr.Hil)
TO SORT OUT THE GOOD STUFF FOR YOU !!!

And since the digital tv change ?
My cable company… COMCAST…
is slowly moving decent channels to either
high numbers, or address-able converter ones…
that don’t show up on tv’s without THEIR cable boxes…
(additional $10 per month per box)
those are the rest of the tv’s in your house !!!
It must be good for COMCAST
but alot of people (like me) just don’t watch
those channels (from the comfort of my bed) anymore !
I only watch them if I’m in the right room…
(or throw in a tape to record it if it’s a must-see)

THOSE STATIONS SHOULD BE SCREAMING
TO HIGH HELL !!! (or their advertisers should)
They’re being cut off from a good portion of subscribers !

I HAD A DREAM LAST NIGHT…
what a lovely dream it was…

Actually it was a first for me…
I was sitting, on the phone, calling a deli I frequent…
and I had a winning lottery ticket in my hand…
I just checked the numbers AGAIN…
and had won $191 MILLION !!!
I bragged to the guy on the phone
and was considering my next move…
WHEN  I  WOKE  !!!

Let me tell you.. I woke with a smile on my face !
and the smile lasted all day !!!
(as of that morning’s results… NOT YET)
I wish I could see the numbers on the ticket… NOW…
I read them off in the dream…
but didn’t wake with them in my head…

I’M HOPING IT’S A SIGN OF THINGS TO COME !!!

while I was walking around…

than another, and another…
half the people there (older ones) joined in…

I’m channel surfing
and come across this dance contest show on Fox…
(NOT REALLY MY THING.. I BORE EASILY)
The standard 3 judges who ‘thumbs-up-or-down’ you…
Non-celeb dancers… but some with real talent…

The judges were ooh-ing & ahh-ing over some girl,
not comfortable with hip-hop,
who went out and conquered hip-hop !!!

WHY WAS IT CALLED HIP HOP ?
The boy-girl combo came out and did a routine
that could have easily been re-created
in the 90’s, 80’s, 70’s, 60’s.. whenever…
to whatever music you happened to be playing,
with no change in the steps !!!

The moves weren’t unique to ANY style of music…
and the music they danced to wasn’t full-blown hip-hop !!!

I’ve seen this before… (on dance-with-the-stars too)…
The judges call for a style of dance…
but the dancers come out to a costumed, acrobatic routine
that bears non of the marks of a specific dance
that you would demand in a REAL ball room dance contest !!!
