both died on November 22, 1963,

The Chronicles of Narnia and The Space Trilogy.
Lewis was a close friend of J. R. R. Tolkien,

I’ve heard the failure of the gay marriage referendum
in California is being laid on the many black voters…

I walked in to an argument-discussion
about hip-hop music…
A 50-ish dad thought it crap and so did his kids…
I agreed with the younger woman argue-ing with him…
Girls like to dance… you want to dance?
THESE DAYS YOU GO HIP-HOP !!!

Then the conversation turned to…
14 year old girls having boyfriends !!!
The ‘dad’ insisted his daughter did NOT have one…
The ‘woman’ thought he was being naive…
and asked what he (and the rest of us were doing) at 14…
I had to admit (reluctantly) that it was NOT unheard of…
The ‘dad’ was adamant though…
his daughter is into athletics… no time for boys…
The way he sounded, she’ll be afraid
to bring home boys when she’s 35 years old !!!

I wondered what boyfriend meant to him ?
Is a boyfriend someone you bring to the holiday table ?
Or is it someone you hang around with at school…
walk to class with, walk to and from school with…
stealing a hug or a kiss when you can ?

I go with the latter…
After school, I’ve often seen young teen ‘couples’
walking home from school, hand-in-hand…
with the big embrace and sloppy kisses…
and part ways BEFORE the girl
turns onto the street where she lives…
WITH THE PARENTS NEVER KNOWING…
OR HER BEING AFRAID TO BRING UP THE SUBJECT !
So I’m thinking… this ‘dad’ may be absolutely correct…
but I don’t think his kid is running home
to tell her parents her secrets !!!

HEY… I KNOW IT’S NOT EVERY 14 YEAR OLD…
BUT, EVEN IF NOT ACTING ON IT…

The version i heard wasn’t as ‘antiseptic’…

The uzi has a tendency to ‘ride up’ as you shoot…
the ‘kick’ pushes the gun up and back…
I heard that the dad was getting a camcorder at the time
to video the kid.. and left him with the gun…
Even if the dad let his guard down or was distracted,
he’s still somewhat culp-able in the accident !

The kid pulled the trigger…
a few ‘automatic’ shots later (it takes only seconds)..
one went up under his chin and killed him…

I’m such a safety nut…
I won’t even let my car warm up in front of my house
without me sitting behind the wheel…
I had a car roll away once… good thing i didn’t kill someone…
ADDITIONALLY… I’VE NEVER FIRED A ‘REAL’ GUN !!!
But I have no problem with the sport of target shooting…
I play darts… same thing… just a little more of a ‘rush’ with guns !

The dad here let his guard down… let his kid down !
He thought his young child was smarter than most…
Not just a kid… it was his shooting buddy !!!
(were they going out for beers later?)

AND 8 YEARS OLD ?
Even Raphie in CHRISTMAS STORY was 10 or 12…
and got a one-shot air rifle… NOT an automatic pistol !!!

TARGET SHOOTING at a PROPER RANGE,
with a SINGLE shot air rifle…
WITH PROPER SUPERVISION…
Just MIGHT be okay with a 10 year old !!!
BUT AN ‘UZI’… NO EFFIN’ WAY !!!

A SHAME…
The dad should have never been more than a few feet away…
READY TO JUMP IN !!!

(my daughter is 21 & I still made sure reminding her not to be stupid)
(AND the cop instructor friend never left her side)

You never leave your ‘curved’ finger on the trigger,

There was just that story in Flagstaff, Arizona…
another 8 year old killed his father & another with a .22 rifle…

SPEAKING OF THE OLD DAYS…

I have one ’special’ regret from my fraternity days…

On OUR hell-night-initiation…
We drank, got soaked in water… got high…
spent alot of time blindfolded…
and put thru initiation ’stations’ thru-out the house…

It was a memorable time that I remember fondly…
from being seated on a window ledge (blindfolded),
being pushed out (a short drop to a mattress on ‘tar beach’)…
to being taken to the showers… but first…
someone sitting on the toilet.. shitting?… gets up…
and has you lift his shit out of the bowl
(it was really dog food)…
BUT… THE ONE I REGRETTED ???
Dragged onto the kitchen table… on my stomach,
held down spreadeagled… letting me watch
the AXP branding iron glow red hot in the stove flame…
and then getting ‘branded’ on the small of my back !!!

The burn was actually ‘dry ice’ hitting my skin !!!
and didn’t know it wasn’t a burn till the next day !

Then, and still to this day… REGRETS !!!
I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO GET AN ACTUAL BRANDING !!!
(like they may have REALLY done back in the day)

I really enjoy the early rock movie…
THAT THING YOU DO
(even more than I enjoy Rushmore)

I’ve seen both those movies too many times to count…
But recently… reached my limit
and started steering clear instead of attracted
to, when shown on tv…

With nothing on.. I tuned to a STARZ movie channel,
and caught the movie during a performance scene…
and ended up staying with it…

I thought I knew the movie inside-and-out…
but there was a quick scene I wasn’t familiar with…
Nah.. can’t be… then it happened again !
Perhaps I didn’t watch it as closely as I thought I did ?
Then more… lines I never heard before !

I DON’T KNOW WHEN THEY STARTED SHOWING
THE EXTENDED VERSION…
was it early, then cut, then restored?
was it a director’s vanity cut ?

ANYWAY… A FEW THINGS WERE EXPLAINED
ALOT FULLER THAN I REMEMBERED…

and the armload of reel-to-reel tapes that Guy
brought back to the hotel after his recording session
near the end of the movie…
MAKES SENSE NOW !!!

EVEN Opies’s brother.. CLINT HOWARD
gets more screen time…
as does DEL PAXTON and the boys…

IT MAKES FOR A BETTER MOVIE…
THE EXTRA SCENES SHOULD HAVE ALWAYS BEEN IN…

If you get the chance… check out the movie…
and see if yours is the extended one too !
If you’ve seen it (a few times) before…
you should be able to pick out an easy half dozen new scenes…
(more if you’ve seen it as many times as I have)

How, many times, you can tell the ‘leaning-age’
by an extremely ealry age…   AND I AGREE !

But their conversation about being born gay…
GOT ME TO THINKING !!!

They put the percentage of ‘born-gay’ at about 70%…
(70% of gay people, not the population)
saying that others were on-the-fence or sucked-into-it !!!
WHY CAN’T THEY FALL TO THE OTHER SIDE (of the fence) TOO ?
(still in tune with my thoughts)

HERE COMES THE NON-PC PART…
It got me thinking that a portion of that OTHER 30%
wasn’t born gay.. but made a choice !!!
(OPPOSITE TO THE CREDO OF MANY GAYS)

And if a choice is made…
THEN SEXUAL ORIENTATION
CAN BE A CHOICE (for some) !!!

As further ‘proof’ of this theorem…
I offer the scenario of gay men that marry,
have children, lead the hetero-life,
and DON’T act on their same gender attractions…
much the same way a married hetero-male
stays loyal to HIS marriage vows !!!

THUS,
