Dad Day loses it’s luster in the in-between years,
the ones between pre-teen & grandchildren…
Luster? What’s that ?
I’ve had some good things happen to me,
and some people unexpectedly being generous to me…
but I can’t find the ‘high’ I did a short time ago…

Dick Martin

The zany half of the comedy team “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In”
that took television by storm in the 1960s,  has died.

“Laugh-in” was unlike any comedy-variety show before it.
Rather than relying on tightly scripted song-and-dance segments,
it offered a steady, stream-of-consciousness run of non-sequitur jokes,
 political satire and madhouse antics.
Presiding over it all were Rowan and Martin,
the veteran nightclub comics whose standup banter
 put their own distinct spin on the show.

Like all straight men, Rowan provided the voice of reason,
striving to correct his partner’s absurdities.
Martin, meanwhile, was full of bogus, often risque theories about life,
 which he appeared to hold with unwavering certainty.

More’s the shame… he’s survived by ‘hot’ wife
(I knew her from the old days)

THE WORST PART OF DYING HAD TO BE LEAVING HER BEHIND !!!

I have been very critical of the lack of morals & class
of former NJ Governor Jim McGreevey…
(I’m personally very disappointed in him for the ‘corruption’)

But after see-ing ’snig-lets’ of the McGreevey-Matos
circus of a trial on the news…
I FIND MYSELF IN THE ODD POSITION
OF AGREE-ING WITH HIM ON SOMETHING !!!

The child part of their disagreement is settled (in private)…

AS FOR THE ALIMONY PART ?
It turns out that they were married ONLY 4 years…
(less if you subtract the pre-divorce separaton)
For 2 of those years they lived in a modest condominium
in a modest town where he served as mayor…
The balance of the marriage was spent
living in the governor’s mansion
paid for by the good graces of the people of New Jersey…

Pre-marriage, her income was in the $80,000 a year range…
(not too shabby)
and HIS short-term biggest income was as governor…
(salaries not all that far apart)

I’m having a hard time with her argument
that she should be allowed to live in the style
to which she is accustomed,
or that she should be entitled to a portion of his future earnings,
considering the short length of their marriage !!!

THE WAY IT LOOKS…
SHE COULD BE PAYING HIM ALIMONY
BEFORE THIS CASE IS OVER !!!

I agree that he’s a scum for a number of reasons…
and that she’s angry and hurt,
and wants to embarass him as much as she can…

BUT, AS FAR AS, LEGALLY ?
She might have cause to sue him for something else,
but as far as alimony…
I CAN’T SEE THE FAIRNESS OF HER ARGUMENT !!!
The assets acquired during the marriage
should determine IF alimony is required…
BUT THERE IS NO REASON EITHER OF THEM
CAN’T GET JOBS AND SUPPORT THEMSELVES !!!

Is the child is taken care of ?

THEN BOTH OF THEM SHOULD GO BACK TO WORK…
GO BACK AND HAVE A LIFE…

In case you haven’t noticed…
there is an economic crisis going on…

But it doesn’t seem to be slowing down spending
on any frivolous or NOT immediately needed program…
Everything is full speed ahead, as if there were a ‘boom’…

The cost of gas is effecting lifestyle,
as is the cost of food, utilities, and everything else…
WITH NO SIGN OF ABATEMENT IN SIGHT !!!

In the supermarket, you may have noticed prices going up,
and the size of the package being reduced…
ala the sugar crisis of the 70’s…
where candy bars were downsized to near-half,
and prices went up several hundred percent !!!

ROAD WIDENING PROJECTS ?
Traffic is down… people don’t ‘joy’ ride anymore…
It’s like them building a Disneyland in China
near the quake victims instead of putting up more tents,
and making potable water and food available !!!

HOW ABOUT SOME PRIORITIZING
IN THE LEGISLATURE ?
WOULDN’T IT BE A GOOD TIME
TO DELAY SOME ‘PROJECTS’ ?

For instance… this coversion to digital tv next February ?
It’s going to cost the people who can least afford it
unnecessary (at this time) money just to watch tv !!!

I THINK THE CONVERSION COULD WAIT A YEAR OR 2…
(the $40 coupon won’t cover the cost, and for NOT all the people)

A new ‘rock’ from far away
for my collection…

This was brought to me from the Tigris River, Takrit, Iraq…
from a newly returned serviceman… (Owen’s dad)

 I repeatedly asked and asked for a rock…
(I practically badgered him)
and FINALLY had one on the way…
I was told there was great symbolism to the shape of the rock…

When I was FINALLY presented with it…
I was told…
” here is it, shove it up your….”

The only reason for TV shows like that
are vanity pieces to make older women feel good about themselves.
But how ?  The ones that appear are definitely exceptions to the rule.
It would be like having a bathing suit competition for 60 year old guys.
GREAT THAT SOME KEEP IN BETTER SHAPE…
BUT CAN ONLY MAKE THE LESS GENETICALLY FORTUNATE

I wasn’t in the market for a plug-in for power drive…
those are $180 for a terrabyte…
I bought a pocket-sized Iomege (a company good to me),
powered off the laptop, totally portable, 250 gig capacity.
It cost me $170 (a premium for Iomega equipment).

WELL… a few short months later…
Mine is going for $132,
and the 320 gig model is going for $10 less
than I payed for the 250 gig model !!!
(and externally they look the same)

GEEZ… GOOD THINK THE 250 GIG
WILL TAKE YEARS TO FILL !!!

I just watched the new INDIANA JONES movie…
and I really can’t see why anyone
who enjoyed RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK
would not enjoy this film…

RAIDERS redefined the action in action movies,
and you can’t expect to recreate THAT excitement in a world
that that has used THAT film as it’s template for decades…

There is something to be said for familiarity & a decent script.
NOT OSCAR CALIBER BY ANY MEANS, BUT VERY ENJOYABLE.

As for the RUSSIANS… ARE THEY KIDDING ?
Worried that their kids will accept a fiction as historical truth?
(like idiots here refer to Oliver Stone & Michael Moore ‘interpretations’)
First of all, the bad guy russians were mild compared to
a James Bond movie or scores of other films !
And I’m wondering if the Russians have taken the ‘high’ road
and not made movies about ‘evil’ americans ?
This movie is more ‘cartoon’ than serious historical account…
If it bothers that much, make youe own action movie…
