for the way of life I’ve been able to enjoy
even though I’m too big a ‘pussy’
to even consider making THAT level of sacrifice !!!

I can’t think of the last time I was sick…
or around anyone with anything contagious…
WELL…
I GOT A ‘MUTHA’ OF A COLD FROM SOMEWHERE !
A cough-y, achy one…
that came just in time to ruin my weekend…

At least I can’t spread it online…

BUT YOU’LL HAVE TO WAIT TO HEAR ABOUT…
MY glorius return to the airwaves,
and latest appearance (well, more than 1 mention anyway),
on the RON & FEZ XM Satellite Radio Show
(channel 202, noon-to-three)
it will have to wait till next issue…

This cold just ‘killed’ my muse,
and where I usually see things to write about…
(like every place I go) there is a blank slate !!!

Eh.. once my brain cools off,
I’ll be back to normal…

I think I’m going to have to fall back on my archives
and make a portion of this week’s issue…

PLAYED COMEDIC & BAD SOLDIERS…
BUT WAS ONE OF US…

R.I.P

Sig Ruman

Wonderfully talented German-born actor,
capable of tremendous comedic and dramatic performances,
usually as some type of pompous bureaucrat or arrogant individual.

He became a favorite of the Marx Brothers,
appearing as stiff-shirted NYC opera owner Herman Gottlieb
in the comedy classic A Night at the Opera (1935).
He played a know-it-all surgeon crossing swords with Groucho Marx
over what exactly was wrong with hypochondriac Margaret Dumont in
A Day at the Races (1937). & a dual role in A Night in Casablanca (1946).

With his German accent, he was a regular in WWII espionage thrillers,
including a superb portrayal of the two-faced POW guard Schulz
in the splendid Stalag 17 (1953). He was also popular with
director Ernst Lubitsch, who cast Ruman in Ninotchka (1939),
and To Be or Not to Be (1942).
In all, he notched up over 100 feature film appearances
as well as guest star spots on many TV shows.

I thought of Sig because of a movie on a classic movie channel.
(plus he & I share the month & day of our births)
He was much younger, but the voice was un-mistake-able…
Especially, in the use of the word… ‘rrr-rah-dee-o’ (radio).

The face & voice now have a name for you…

I’m just sitting here digesting a great Mother’s Day breakfast…
(breakfast is a specialty of mine)
and taking a glance at the sunday newspaper…

HOW DO PEOPLE STAND IT ?
IT’S INFURIATING !!!

The CONSERVATION PARADOX ?

The more you conserve, the more it costs you later !!!
On the same front page are 2 stories…
ONE STORY.. talking about how people who NEVER considered
car pooling before are finding it a necessity now…
The increasing cost of fuel is really cutting into
the quality of life for some average wage earners !!!

(The ‘cost’ of fuel originally led to the migration to the suburbs,
now, the un-think-able… move closer to work ?
Back to questionable qualtity of life neighborhoods ?
YOUR DREAM HOUSE A LOST DREAM ?)

The SECOND STORY ?
It seems the toll roads are going to be FORCED
to raise tolls to cover the cost of bond & road projects !!!
WHY ARE THESE PROJECTS GOING FORWARD
WHEN THE COST TO THE AVERAGE JOE IS OVERWHELMING ?

SO… you finally are FORCED into a ‘mass’ transit option,
one they have been trying to ’sell’ for decades…
and there are NO savings for you, only inconvenience !!!

YOU GET SCREWED ON BOTH ENDS !!!

MY HUMBLE OPINION ?
If they really wanted you to use mass transit,
instead of increasing fares on a regular basis…
how about DECREASING the fare ?
WHY NOT MAKE IT SUCH A BARGAIN
THAT YOU WOULD BE FOOLISH
NOT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT ???

Conserve water or electricty during a heat wave ?
Due to decreased usage, rates go up in the fall !!!

AND … If you’re already using ‘hamburger helper’…
you are at the ‘bottom’ and have nothing to conserve !

AND THEY WONDER WHY CONVERSATION
IS SUCH A HARD SELL ?

BUT NOT TO WORRY ABOUT THE GOV’T…
The vehicles of federal & state elected officials & employees
will pay ANY fuel cost, ANY toll cost for a single occupant…
WHY NOT? IT’S TAX DOLLARS PAYING FOR IT !!!
(run short on funds? add, or raise, a tax)

I don’t own a GPS system…
I USUALLY KNOW WHERE I AM GOING !

But I heard this tip that I think worth passing along…

Most GPS units have pre-sets…
for instance … HOME
from wherever you are, it will take you home…

BUT IF SOMEONE STEALS THE UNIT or YOUR CAR…
They can easily find their way to your home for further mischief…
(if they have your keys too… it’s practically an invitation)

It was suggested that instead of putting in YOUR home address…
to put in one of a nearby neighbor (or enemy)…
This way, you’re expected to be able to find your way home
from a nearly location in YOUR neighborhood,
and anyone who is in possession of your GPS
will NOT be able to find their way to your front door
from the information you so gladly provided !!!

Of course… if the criminals do a home invasion,
and kill your neighbors by mistake…
WON’T YOU FEEL SILLY !!!

ANOTHER SUNDAY NEWS STORY
that seems a bit one-sided in favor of the woman…

Claiming abuse (no evidence on file) a young woman
disappears with her 2 daughters during a CUSTODY dispute…
(the husband vehemently denies her claims… but he would, either way)
(no evidence, no police reports, no photos, no witnesses)
She moves few times, changes identities, gets phony ID…
(how do you get phony ID after 9-11 ?
I had trouble renewing my driver’s license!)
and raises her daughters in hiding and is not caught for 15 years !

The ’stupid’ way she was found ?
Her idiot ‘grown’ daughter posted pictures on FACEBOOK !!!
Seems she added relatives as ‘friends’ and the jig-was-up !
(that’s why I’m careful who I add… THEIR friends have access to you!)

ANYWAY… the news-story paints her as a courageous victim,
who should NOT be tried for a crime…
She started a new life with her kids… had the american dream…
was active in school functions, an advocate for abused women..
and the kids didn’t grow up as criminals (like their mom)…

A quote like
“My daughters are safe and grown, what more could a father want ?”
IS INSANE !!!

TO ME, THIS IS THE CRIME…
As a father myself… I would want to ‘bond’ with my kids..
I would want to see them grow up and call me daddy…
I would want to be there for the important dates in their lives…
(and them mine.. eg.. father’s day?)
I would want them to know ME,
and not only know me from their mother’s view!!!

I WOULD WANT TO HOLD THEM AND LOVE THEM !!!
Not know whether they are alive or dead,
safe or not, whores or drug addicts or what ?
UN-THINK-ABLE TORTURE !

OH.. AND THE ABUSED WIFE TOOK OFF
WHEN SHE WAS IN HER EARLY 20′S…
This seems more like punishing the ‘dad’ !!!
There were courts for any other issues !

I’M SURE I ‘LOST’ THE WOMEN (& some men)
with the tone of my argument….
BUT THE WAY I’M LOOKING AT IT…

REVERSE IT…
Have the father be the one on-the-run !
How sympathetic would you be to a man
who took a woman’s children away from her ?
NO MATTER WHAT HIS CLAIMS ABOUT HER !!!

That SCUMBAG would be called every name in the book,
and advocate groups would be calling for his head !!!

IN A COUNTRY OF EQUAL RIGHTS…
This would open a can-of-worms if she is NOT prosecuted !
EVERY man caught and being brought to trial,
could use this case as a basis for making HIS a non-crime !

SO IS CUSTODIAL INTERFERENCE A CRIME OR NOT ?
If you get away with it long enough, do you get a ‘pass ?
If it’s not a crime, it sure would make life easier for some bastards !!!
(and bastard-ettes)

AND THIS ONE WILL GET A BOOK DEAL,
AND A MOVIE OF THE WEEK !!!

I GUESS HER NEXT STEP WILL BE TO SUE HIM
FOR ALL THE PAST CHILD SUPPORT PAYMENTS
SHE NEVER RECEIVED !!!
