in his 1961 novel Stranger in a Strange Land as a Martian word

I have to re-iterate…
WHO WAS THE BRAIN SURGEON
THAT PICKED CHINA AS THE OLYMPIC SITE ?
Even if the Tibet thing wasn’t an issue,
even if ‘questionable actions’ of the gov’t wasn’t an issue…

THE FRIGGIN’ AIR IS NOT BREATE-ABLE !!!
The pollution in the area of the games is so bad
that there is going to be a ban of construction,
use of heavy machinery,
and generally ANYTHING that effects air quaility !!!

THEY FIGURE IF THEY ‘BEHAVE’ THEMSELVES FOR 3 WEEKS,
the quality of the air will improve enough
to NOT be detrimental to the performance of the athletes !!!

IT WAS INSANE TO PICK CHINA AS AN OLYMPIC HOST !!!

The only reason I can come up with is…
MASSIVE BRIBERY !!!
Someone, or some group, must have really ‘lined’ their pockets,
to give approval to such an inappropriate site !!!

CHINESE PROTESTS ?

A CNN commentator is being protested by some Chinese.
(they want him fired)
Seems that his comments refering to poisonous chinese goods
that have entered the USA as ‘junk’…
and further commenting that the gov’t of China
was still being run by ‘thugs’…
(uh.. the same ones that were in charge for the
Tiananmen Square Massacre are the ones handling the Tibet situation)

IT SEEMS THERE SHOULD BE NO ARGUMENT !!!

You would think the Chinese people who left there,
to be here.. would be the first to agree !

They only thing that makes sense to me
is that the protestors are agents of the Chinese Gov’t…

Because of the previous gas crisis…
(and me getting stuck with a gas guzzler as a kid)
I made sure to buy a car that got great gas mile-age…
i bought a Datsun in the early 80’s… the selling point ?
40+ miles per gallon !!!
I kept that car for 17 years…
It never got less than 36 miles per gallon !
On the highway, I could do up to 42 miles per gallon !!!
(not hybrid or electric.. a gas combustion engine with catalytic converter)
AND NOW?
MILE-AGE LIKE THAT IS A DREAM GOAL !!!
That should have been a starting point and better mile-age now !!!

A queer duck when it comes to some of his music.
Due to the internet, the obscure music that I try to add to my catalog
of favorite songs by an artist is usually found…
I once hunted down a song Jackson Browne did at a college concert,
written by a band-mate, never released that I liked…
Took me nearly 30 years to find it… a bootleg of the concert
was available to be traded for…
(the end of the ‘hunt’ was kind of a letdown)

Anyway… when filling-out the ‘donovan section’…
I discovered a song I wanted might only exist in my memory now…
I was almost certain it got radio airplay…
(according to info I finally got.. it never made it to radio)
but NOW? even the ‘correct’ lyrics didn’t google !!!
and I only found one vague reference to the song in a UK blog !
NO one had a copy to share !!!

I went thru his ‘work’ album-by-album…
(I should have thought of that sooner)
and found the song on a ‘live’ album done in the late 60’s.
It ran 2:50 and I remember it as a ‘keeper’ !

(IT WOULD BE A GREAT LITTLE ‘SECRET’ TO PUT IN A MOVIE)

Perhaps I never heard it on the radio…
I think I recognize the album cover…
I might have either owned it, or borrowed it, at some time…

THE COST OF CABLE TV…

ALWAYS CALL AND COMPLAIN..
SHOULD SAVE YOU ALOT OF MONEY

My cable tv bill (with broadband) was $144 a month !
TOO MUCH !!!
I called a year ago, mentioned satellite & DSL options…
and they gave me an additional movie channel,
and dropped my bill to $114 a month for one year.
The year expired, and without notification or approval…
My bill went to.. not the $144 I was paying… but $227 per month !!!

They didn’t even try to minimize the charge
by putting us in a plan that existed…
they went to ala carte at the maximum price !!!

THE BASTARDS !!!

I phoned again… the result ?
Exactly the same stuff I have now…
but I pay $97 a month for 6 months !!!
(a tiny bit of difference)

I was told I should pay the $227 and get a credit next month !
(you pay a month ahead, not behind)
YEAH, RIGHT !!!
I said to note my account to not shut me off for non-payment,
that I would pay 2 months at $97 per on the next bill…
(they weren’t sending me a revised bill)

AND THEN I FOLLOWED IT UP WITH AN EMAIL
TO THE BILING DEPT. (no answer yet) TO CONFIRM !
(trust no one, get it in writing)

AND IN 6 MONTHS ?
If i can’t get a ‘deal’… I drop down to basic service and modem.
There is really no one in my house to take advantage
of any ‘fancy’ services… movies suck these days !

THAT STARTS ON THE FIRST.. 2 weeks previous to receipt of the bill,
SO YOU ALREADY ‘BOUGHT’ HALF THE MONTH !!!

BUT YOU ARE TOTALLY UNAWARE
THAT ANY LONG-TERM PROMOTION YOU WERE IN HAS ENDED
AND THEY ARE GOING TO CHARGE YOU FOR
THE PREVIOUS HALF-A-MONTH BEFORE YOU ARE NOTIFIED !!!

According to the email reply… I owe $177 pre-new-plan.
According to customer non-service?
It’s the way business works
and if I go to one of their competitors,
THEY TREAT YOU THE SAME !!!

I told him… they might treat me the same,
but there’s a chance they may not…

I needed a new power supply for my laptop computer.
Of course, it wasn’t the one that uses a ’standard’ supply.
A computer shop I use could sell me a universal adapter,
but I’d rather have the original equipment…
That listed for between $59 & $89 !!!

But my buddy in the store showed it to me on Ebay
for $14-16 with $12 for shipping.. NEW !

So I went home, went to Ebay, and found plenty listed
at BUY NOW for a set price & not wait for the auction to end.
Seems several companies make an equivalent…
I finally found one that appeared to be EXACT !
$13.99 plus $12 shipping, $1 insurance…
A 99.8% approval rating for previous sales !

I JUMPED AT THAT ONE !!!
It’s not an emergency, the old one is ‘hanging’ on…
but I’ll be glad when the new one arrives…

OH… ONE THING I FORGOT TO CHECK…
Where the seller was located !

HONG KONG !!!
They say I’ll have it in 2 weeks…
(which is kinda good for an ebay purchase)
I WOULD HAVE FELT MORE ASSURED
